For Frieze London, James Cohan is pleased to share a special presentation of work by Eamon Ore-Giron, Josiah McElheny, Naudline Pierre, and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian.
Eamon Ore-Giron's Infinite Regress mosaics recall the paradox of infinite regeneration, drawing on vocabularies of architecture, textiles, maps, hieroglyphics, and astral charts. Collaborating with artisans in Cuernavaca, Mexico, Ore-Giron uses smalti hand-cut mosaic glass and 24 carat gold glass pieces to interpret his compositions, celebrating the rich history of mosaics in Latin America.
Josiah McElheny's Late Emergence II, the latest in the artist's Island Universe series, models an ever-expanding cosmos in hand-blown glass and polished steel. Works like From the Library of Doubles VII and From the Library of Optics I extend this vision, their mirrored forms multiplying into infinite reflection.
Naudline Pierre’s paintings draw from fantasy and iconography to conjure alternate worlds. Revamping art historical motifs to explore the mythic power of water, Pierre's latest paintings invite us into aquatic landscapes where chimeric characters like sirens and nymphs are bound in mysterious entanglement.
Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian’s wall-hanging sculptures, disco balls and intricate geometric drawings will be on view. Highlights include rare and early works from the 1970s, which fuse Farmamfarmaian’s interest in mirror mosaics, floral drawing and Persian poetry.
