James Cohan Gallery is pleased to announce Jesper Just's participation in "The End", a celebration of twenty years of Electromediascope, an international survey of contemporary film, video, performance and new media art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This is also the final Electromediascope program and will feature recent works in different media from among the 350 artists of 53 different countries and nationalities of origin that have been presented in at the Nelson-Atkins between 1993 and 2013.

Katie Paterson at Kettle's Yard and St. Peter's Church, Cambridge, UK
James Cohan Gallery is pleased to announce Katie Paterson's upcoming exhibition at Kettle's Yard and St. Peter's Church in Cambridge, England -- the culmination of her residency of at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. A new work on display in St Peter’s Church, Fossil Necklace, 2013, comprises over 150 beads carved from fossils that chart the evolution of life on earth. From a dinosaur tooth to a squid’s backbone, the oldest fossil is around 3.5 billion years old.

Fred Tomaselli at Columbus College of Art and Design: New York Times
Fred Tomaselli first became known for highly decorative, intensively worked paintings that evoked escapism through both their imagery and their materials. New York Times presents a more direct confrontation with reality: a series of altered front pages from our nation’s newspaper of record. The works set up a striking contrast between newspapers’ sober, columned depictions of reality and Tomaselli’s vivid interventions. The results are sometimes funny, sometimes sinister, often both.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield is to exhibit the first major UK survey of works by Yinka Shonibare, MBE. Katie Paterson's 'Campo del Cielo, Field of Sky’ for Exhibition Road Show, London July 28 - August 5, 2012
Katie Paterson’s work offers a unique blend of art and science, and an expanded sense of reality, beyond the purely visible. For Road Show, Paterson has taken a meteorite that has been travelling through space and time for 4.5 billion years, cast it, melted it and then re-cast it back into “a new version of itself.” The new space and time altered meteorite will be placed on Exhibition Road where people will be encouraged to explore the cosmic rock. Yun-Fei Ji’s practice evokes classical Chinese paintings with a contemporary twist. Utilising centuries-old techniques and executed on rice paper in ink and watercolour, Ji’s scrolls unfold to reveal surprising subject matter and unexpected narratives. Ji draws his subjects from historical sources such as the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the Boxer Rebellion and the Great Leap Forward. James Cohan Gallery announces that the artist, Tabaimo, will represent Japan at the 54th Biennale di Venezia. The official opening of the pavilion will be on June 1, 2011 at 3:00pm, and the exhibition will be open from June 4 - November 27, 2011. Recognized as one of her country's leading young artists, Tabaimo first received critical acclaim for her multimedia installation, Japanese Kitchen (1999), which combined surreal, hand-drawn animations with architectural elements in an unblinking examination of contemporary Japanese society.

New York-based artist Suzanne Bocanegra talks about her work, channeled through Paul Lazar, an actor long associated with New York's legendary Wooster Group. Together (sort of) they tell a tale incorporating Elvis, abstract expressionism, the Pope, astronauts, the Singing Nun and obviously, a witch. Trenton Doyle Hancock at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium: Hancock debuts new 45 x 98 foot mural in Texas
The Dallas Cowboys commissioned Texas-based artist Trenton Doyle Hancock to make an original wall painting for their new stadium in Arlington, TX. Hancock's 45 x 98 foot mural, From a Legend To A Choir, was completed this March and features a panoply of his cartoon-like Mound characters populating a vibrant flowerbed.

Roxy Paine's Inversion: Installation by Roxy Paine at the entrance to Art Basel 2008
Roxy Paine's ambitious sculpture, Inversion, 2008, will be on view as part of the Art Basel 39 Public Art Projects on the Messeplatz, June 4 – 8, 2008. Inversion is a stainless-steel sculpture of a tree-like form that is upside down, balancing on all of its limbs with its roots at the top. The 12.8 meter tall, hand-constructed, stainless steel sculpture is created out of more than 7,000 metal plate, pipe, and rod elements. The stainless steel sculptures Paine has produced since 1999 are a product of the artist's detailed study of countless tree species and the rules and codes that determine the language of these forms.
