In conjection with the exhibition The Nature of Order, James Cohan Gallery is pleased to present Stefano Scodanibbio.STEFANO SCODANIBBIO's name has been linked with the renaissance of the double bass. He is recognized as the leading proponent of his instrument for contemporary composition and was for many years the colleague and collaborator of Giacinto Scelsi and Luigi Nono. Dozens of works have been written for him by such composers as Bussotti, Donatoni, Estrada, Xenakis, et al. He has created new techniques extending the colors and range of the double bass heretofore thought impossible on this instrument, notably on his solo recording "Voyage That Never Ends" (New Albion Records). Scodanibbio regularly plays in duo with Terry Riley as well as with Roham de Saram and Markus Stockhausen. This performance will follow a concert with Stefano Scodanibbio and Terry Riley at the Merkin Concert Hall on January 13, 2000.
The performance will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
