New York-based artist Suzanne Bocanegra talks about her work, channeled through Paul Lazar, an actor long associated with New York's legendary Wooster Group. Together (sort of) they tell a tale incorporating Elvis, abstract expressionism, the Pope, astronauts, the Singing Nun and obviously, a witch. First performed by Paul Lazar at the Museum of Modern Art, NY on May 3, 2010, this piece has traveled to the Wexner Center, the Tang Museum, The Performing Garage and is completing a theatrical run at The Chocolate Factory, NYC in April of 2011.
The co-founder of Big Dance Theater, Paul Lazar has been an Associate Member of New York’s Wooster Group, and starred in films such as Silence of the Lambs, Beloved, Lorenzo’s Oil, and Philadelphia, among others.
Suzanne Bocanegra is a New York-based artist whose performance and installation works are included in a major show titled
I Write the Songs, which originated at the Tang Museum in 2010 and will be traveling to Site Santa Fe in the summer of 2011.
Tickets are free but RSVP is recommended as seating is limited. The performance starts at 7:00 and runs for one hour.
